June Is Men's Health Month — A Reminder to the Men We Love
Share
From our sewing rooms to your hearts.
We spend a lot of time at Sew Obsessed talking about fabric, patterns, and the joy of creating. But this June, we want to take a moment to talk about something just as important — the health of the men in our lives.
June is Men's Health Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the health challenges men face and encouraging the men we love to take better care of themselves. Whether it's your husband, partner, father, son, brother, or best friend — this one's for them.
Why Men's Health Matters
Statistics show that men are significantly less likely than women to visit a doctor regularly, seek help for mental health concerns, or address symptoms before they become serious. Men are more likely to delay care, push through pain, and put everyone else's needs before their own.
Sound familiar? Many of us have watched the men in our lives do exactly this.
What You Can Do
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply start the conversation. Here are a few gentle ways to encourage the men you love to prioritize their health this June:
- Book the appointment for them — many men won't make the call themselves, but they'll show up if someone else schedules it
- Ask how they're really doing — mental health check-ins matter just as much as physical ones
- Make healthy habits a shared activity — walk together, cook a nourishing meal, or simply spend time together away from screens
- Remind them it's strength, not weakness — seeking help and taking care of yourself takes courage
Key Health Screenings to Encourage
June is a great time to nudge the men in your life toward these important health checks:
- Annual physical exam and blood pressure check
- Cholesterol and blood sugar screening
- Skin cancer check (especially important heading into summer)
- Prostate health discussion with their doctor (recommended starting at age 50, or earlier with family history)
- Mental health check-in — stress, anxiety, and depression are real and treatable
The Quilting Connection
We quilters know a thing or two about care. Every stitch we make is an act of love — for our craft, for our community, and for the people we make things for. This June, let's extend that same care to the men in our lives. Encourage them. Check in on them. Remind them that the people who love them need them around for a long, long time.
And if you're looking for a way to show a man in your life how much he means to you — well, we might know a thing or two about that too. 🧵❤️
